Match the Fraction
ContentFractions
LearningThe site allows students to match the fractions to the visual representation using a pizza. The students first have to match the denominator of the fraction with the number of pieces of pizza. Then they simply click on the pieces to show the correct numerator. This gives a visual representation of how the parts of a fraction are connected to the value of the number.
The learning in this case is a very basic relational understanding of the numerator and denominator. Learners can manipulate the pizza into more or less slices, seeing how the parts of the fraction relate to the whole pizza. TechnologyThe technology is giving students a representation of their thinking. They do not have to draw their own circle or pizza but are able to manipulate it on the computer to create the correct number of pieces according to the denominator of their fraction. The technology also gives a visual of fractions related to a whole and the opportunity to change the denominator and view it within the pizza model.
