Welcome!
This site has been designed as a tool to showcase technological resources that support the learning of numbers and operations at the middle school level. Because Mason Middle School students have shown on standardized test to be weak in this area of mathematics, it has become an evident focus in all classrooms. This includes basic addition, subtraction, multiplication and division as well as rational numbers, percents and decimals. It is a combination of interactive websites, videos and games that not only gain the attention of middle school students, but help teach concepts that are essential throughout any math course.
Under each resource, the title will link to the actual technology while the explanation gives an overview as to what concepts are being learned and how. The explanation will describe specific content addressed by the resource, whether the learning is instrumental understanding (carrying out procedures) or relational (understanding the meaning of mathematical words and symbols; connections among ideas), and the role of technology for the learning process.
This site is intended to be a warehouse of resources to be used by teachers with the focus on numbers and operations. In addition to its value in the classroom, this site can also offer students and parents a guide to online learning opportunities.
